Pre-Broadcast Activities

Our team of educators and representatives from the Kansas Judicial Center have comprised a series of pre-broadcast activities to engage students in learning about the United States judicial system.These activities vary in scope, but will prepare students for the online conference on October 12th.We recommend that your students be well-versed in some basic Judicial topics and concepts.

  • Function of Supreme Court - their Constitutional purpose and Judicial Review
  • Separation of Powers - Checks of Supreme Court on Legislative and Executive Branches as well as their checks on the Supreme
  • Court Structure of Supreme Court - number of justices, length of term, qualifications, etc.
  • Structure of Court System - federal, state, county; criminal v. appellate courts
  • Amendments and Bill of Rights - freedoms guaranteed in Constitution, especially 14th and 4th amendments (search and seizure and privacy issues).

Learning Activities:

These activities vary in scope, but will prepare students for the satellite broadcast on October 11.
